Volunteering is an excellent way to provide meaning in your life, while helping to give back to our Tulare County communities. Here at United Way, we are dedicated to engaging community members with impacting volunteer opportunities.
People volunteer for a variety of reasons. Some are motivated by altruistic values. Some seek to utilize their skills in a productive way. Others want to connect with their community. Whatever the reason, we believe volunteering can not only transform the volunteer, but also Tulare County.
Thanks to AmeriCorps, we are immersed in the Volunteer Infrastructure Project (VIP), and focused on building a well-designed, strong and sustainable volunteer program. Our VIP Fellow, Cassandra Chavez is working hard to bring together UWTC's ProjectVolunteer.
A UCLA grad with a degree in International Studies, Cassandra has volunteered her time doing humanitarian work in South Africa. As an AmeriCorps VIP Fellow, she will be with UWTC for the next year developing ProjectVolunteer and taking UWTC's volunteer efforts to a higher level.
By developing a dedicated website, Cassandra has been able to build an online base for organizations to post their volunteer activities, while also providing volunteers a way to express their interest, share their skills, and explore opportunities.
Community benefit organizations have tight budgets which don't always allow for the number of paid staff needed to run their programs. Many organizations need volunteers to assist with fundraising events. Some organizations need a volunteer to serve on their board of directors. ProjectVolunteer allows organizations to post their volunteer opportunities to the website, providing them with a vital connection to the volunteers.
UWTC's ProjectVolunteer website allows a prospective volunteer to define their interests and skills, and also identify their causes. A volunteer is able to track their hours, form teams, save their favorite agencies, and explore opportunities. Simply put, once your figure out why you want to volunteer, we can help you find great opportunities.
