UNITED WAY'S DAY OF ACTION EMPOWERING VOLUNTEERS TO BUILD STRONGER TULARE COUNTY COMMUNITIES

by Susan Manuel

Where are the hand raisers? The game changers? The-stop-talking-start-doing-band-together-and-take-on-the-impossible-task-masters? United Way of Tulare County is organizing an aggressive County-wide effort to canvas low-income neighborhoods and distribute door hangers containing vital information about our 2-1-1 program on United Way's Day of Action. And, it only takes a morning.

Hundreds of United Ways across the world will bring thousands of volunteers together on June 21st in a Worldwide United Way Day of Action.  Locally, we need teams to tackle underserved areas across the Tulare County to give information on how to access resources, services, and opportunities these residents need. When times get tough, finding help should be simple-it is vital we get the information on 2-1-1 out to those who need it most. We will work together to make sure all the areas in need are covered.

We need both Team Leaders and Team Members. Please form a Team, or just volunteer as a Team Member. We will work with you to select an area in Tulare County where residents need help, and where your Team can give a morning to #LiveUnited for the United Way's Worldwide #DayofAction. Let's make it happen in Tulare County.

While each United Way creates meaningful activities centered on specific challenges, here in Tulare County we know it is critical to conduct strategic outreach efforts regarding the benefit of our 2-1-1 Program. Services are just a call, click or search away, but if the people who need the help most don't know about 2-1-1, we can't create the change needed. Clean water? Domestic Violence? Shelter? Food? Even Human Trafficking. 2-1-1 is available via phone, app, or web to connect people to resources and services they need. But, we need to get the word out.

United Way is uniquely positioned to create community solutions to engage people, companies, faith communities, government, labor, nonprofits and more to create community solution which drive lasting change and results. We invite everyone to be part of the change.

United Way Day of Action is the most visible example of our strategic volunteer engagement. This year, some 400 United Ways across the U.S. and in 20 countries are mobilizing volunteers for projects focused on education, income and health.
